COMMISSIONER MASOTTI’S DESK. (End of Season)

What a great season!!  Parents, Cheerleaders, Coaches and players I thank you for your support through another season. We saw great success in the development, through all levels and programs, of the players throughout the year.

Junior Travel ended with an all Pocono Super Bowl. What a great competitive game. It could have gone either way with Red winning 6-0 over White in OT.

The Varsity Program had an outstanding finish. The consolation round Red defeated Orange in a tough back and forth battle 13-0. The championship round pitted the White Lighting against the Blue Ice. The White Lightning winning 24-0 in a game that was much tighter than the score reflects, ending with an exciting 75 yd interception return for a TD.  We send enormous thanks to the Monroe County Saints for offering their field in conducting the Town League Varsity games due to snow soaked CRIS field conditions.

Our C-team fought back from a 12-0 deficit at half time to end the game tied. Unfortunately, they lost this nail biter in OT.

Our B team suffered an early playoff loss behind a solid performance which just fell short. This was a young B-Team with the majority of players eligible to come back to B team next year.

Our A team forged ahead further than any other YAPM A team in playoff competition, by winning the National Conference Championship in an impressive win over an undefeated Olyphant team, but losing in Super Bowl IX to a bigger and very talented Valley View Cougars team.

YAPM ACC LEAGUE - "A" Team Superbowl

A TEAM Midget:  Valley View Cougars 30 YAPM 7

Coach Roger Masotti, ”First I must thank the coaching staff for doing a great job this year, and the parents, all the members of the association both past and present,  came out in full support at the Super Bowl and throughout the year.

I could go on and on about the game. We can always examine it and say what would have happened if we did this…. or …if this call was different.  Every year all teams set out their goals to win the championship and Super Bowl   . These are what you must do to help motivate yourselves and drive yourselves through the 4 weeks of August pre-season practice:  to not walk away as you are running 125 hills, or to have the desire to return after a broken shoulder, dislocated jaws, and knee injuries. These are the victories you have won throughout the season. Now that the season is over, it’s time to look back over the 2008 season with pride, not depression. Along the way you accomplished things and overcame obstacles that reflect the true meaning of champion. Any worthwhile challenge doesn’t come easy. Remember how hard you worked to reach the Super Bowl. The results are not what you wanted, but through your hard work you all had the opportunity to win.  Many more teams were setting the same goals every year, but never even achieved this. You all walk away better football players, and most importantly, better young men and women.

I will share with you a conversation I had post-Super Bowl with Tom Conserette, the ACCJFL President. Tom was so taken he felt compelled to speak to me about his observations. He wanted to let me know how he was impressed in how the association handled themselves. The kids showed disappointment, but enormous sportsmanship and respect to Valley View for their win. The fans all showed great pride, recognition and encouragement for the accomplishments the YAPM kids achieved. The thing that really hit home for Tom was the relationship between coaches, players, parents and fans. He was impressed with the “Family” like atmosphere between everyone in attendance.  I told him that this is something we preach at the YAPM. Once you join you are members of the YAPM family for life. That is why at the end of every home game Rusty plays our adopted theme song by Sister Sledge “We are Family”. Well, it shows to the outside world, so thanks to you all for your support.

To the graduates I am looking forward to watching you play in high school and to the returning players let’s have a great school year, and next summer bring out some friends that can handle the football challenge.

Thanks for a great season and see everyone at the awards ceremonies.”

YAPM Jr. Travel League - 2008 Superbowl

YAPM Red 6   vs.   YAPM White  0  (Overtime)

Coach Jim Gamble, "Before I begin my summation on the Super Bowl Game and our season I must first send a heart felt CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Jim DellaValle, Coach Jerry Sullivan and the Pocono Red Team for a well fought victory.  You guys played an amazing game and had a great season.  JOB WELL DONE!  Can you imagine what will happen in the next 2 years when these two teams that played on Saturday are playing together on the “C” team.  No one will be able to stop them.

To my Pocono White Team I want to start off by saying that I am extremely proud of the efforts of each and every one of you.  I am going to use a few lines that our Football Commissioner Roger Masotti used in his comments to the “B” team after they had a tough loss.  His words truly express how this game should be viewed by all of our players, coaches and parents.  To the Pocono White JR. Travel Team, “the victory of any competition is not defined by the final score, but is earned by the efforts of the team within the competition.”  While the scoreboard shows a loss, “the true victory was yours on Saturday.  Your endless drive and determination till the very end proved yourselves as true champions of the game.”   I want to thank you all for playing with the heart of champions.  I look forward to seeing each of you at the award ceremony in December and I truly hope that you will all return next season to the YAPM family.

To the parents, I just want to say that I was touched by your kind words on Saturday and for your support all season.  It was an honor and a privilege to coach your boys this season.  It was amazing to watch them transform from a bunch of lost kids back in July to the team that took the field in the Super Bowl.   All of our kids participated and took the field this week.  Chris Olsen, Dylan Broderick, Franklin Miller, Nasir Mosley, Darius Robinson, Brandon Gregory, Elijah Johnson, Trent Cherence, Carter Cherence, Jimmy Gamble, Alexander Zabala, Elijah Hernandez, Nick Delguidice, Maurice Watts, Kyrim Provet. Jay Alvarez and Elijah Hargrove all stepped up to play this weekend.  Zavier Gussett showed up with an injury to support the team.  I would also like to thank Matt Delguidice and Art Gussett for assisting with the team.  We could not have done it without your help. Sometimes we get caught up in the momentum of the game and we forget why we are there; to make a difference in the way these kids look at football and sportsmanship.  I feel that we as coaches were able to do just that, which is more important than the game.   Practice for next season begins on July 20th, 2009.  That’s only 257 days for all those counting."

Coach Jim DellaValle, “SUPER BOWL CHAMPS !!  What an outstanding game played by both teams. My hat is off to the Pocono White squad, they played a great game and they should be very proud of the effort given. I do not think I have ever seen, let alone been a part of, a more exciting game played between league 6 and 7 year olds. The best way for me to describe our team is pure intensity. Our guys went all out 110% from the first play to the last play. I really believe what made the difference was our conditioning. I felt we started gaining control of the game from the last 5 minutes on. We started to move down the field better than we had all day only to lose a fumble with about 4 minutes left. I told the guys there still is a lot of football left, don’t let it get you down. Our defense really started to penetrate their line and made it difficult for them to gain yards on us. Jaylin was a beast at nose guard. We never let up. Our guys did not tire. We ran sprints and hills after every practice for a reason and that was to be able to play at full throttle late in the game when it counted most, and we did just that. Once into overtime, I knew Garhett given 4 try’s to gain 10 yards was going to score. I would take that bet every time. It was our defense’s turn after that and they were pumped. They rose to the challenge and secured our Super Bowl victory. Parents you guys were unreal. I still get goose bumps now thinking about what it felt like out there hearing you guys screaming and cheering and I know the players felt it even more than I did. I look forward to seeing all of you at the banquet and would like to thank all of you for making this a special year for our kids. I know they want me to keep this short but I can’t. I have to name all my guys because they were all MVP’s and we would not have been able to win the Super Bowl if it were not for every single player on this TEAM. Congratulations to: Sean Jones, Andrew Weiner, Mason Guelho, Dylan DellaValle, John Walkuw, Jeremiah Sullivan, Joseph Ramm, Calvert James, Justin Cooks, Shane Dezonie, Keonn James, Sidney Sucala, Connor Fylstra, Stephen Lebron, Jaylin Valazquez, Giovanni Spezzia, Garhett Gibson, Stephen Weirich, and Dylan Keane.”

YAPM ACC LEAGUE - October 12th, 2008 - "I" Team All-Star Game

Instructional TEAM:  League All Star Gane

Dunmore/West Scranton/Olyphant 24 vs YAPM/Lakeland/Old Forge 13

Coach Doug Adams, “This week we went to Dunmore for our All Star game and everyone played like an All Star. Everyone played great on offense and defense. Since week one that we went out onto the field I have stressed the word TEAM. At the end of the season we were 22 kids that played as one. Myself and the other coaches could not be more proud of what this team has accomplished this season. We played as a team every time our feet hit that field. I hope everyone had fun this season. I know the coaches had fun and enjoyed coaching all of these players.  Thanks to all the parents for your support and a successful season. We hope to see everyone next year. Remember football is a sport, but we are there to have fun as well. I will miss all of you very much. Have a good school year.”

YAPM ACC LEAGUE - October 26th, 2008 - National Championship Games

C TEAM:   YAPM  12    Dunmore Oilers 19    (OT)

Coach Jeff Krisiak, "This was a hard way to end the season. The game was a tale two games in one. The first half we started out slow and allowed the Oilers to jump out on top by 12. By the start of the 2nd half you could see the fire in our Team’s eyes. They came out hitting hard. At ½ - time we spoke about the offensive and defensive lines taking over the game and they did. We received the ball and the offensive line came out firing on all cylinders. Our backs were able to hit their holes and take-off running. Our defense came out the same way shutting down a very solid Oiler offense. They say this game is a game of inches and that is what it came down to inches. We were just a few inches away from sending the game into double overtime but fell short. There are several emotions that run through your body (anger, disappointed, tears, frustration and finding fault) after a loss like this one. As I walked off the field many fans, YAPM coaches, coaches from other organization, and even the officials commented on what a great game it was. They spoke highly of our players and the organization. They talked about how our players came together in the second half and the intensity in which they played. They were most impressed that they never gave up!

So, as I began to reflect and digest all of these wonder accolades I started to see that we did win. No, it was not the game, but something more important. We turned a bunch off kids into a TEAM of young men. A TEAM that refused to quit in the game or on each other. They were a TEAM that continued to show faith and trust in each other even during adversity. As their confidence was building they played like champions and champions they will always be!

We had a great season finishing 8 and 3. I want thank Rich Swingle, Billy Shelter, Jeff Stoner and Jose Ildefonso for an outstanding job coaching this year. We did make a difference in the lives of our TEAM. I also want to take a few moments to thank our “C” TEAM Cheerleaders for all their support throughout the year. Our fans and parents for all you did to make this a very special year!

I guess sometimes in the moment of the game you forget what is really important; that you are able to make a difference in the life of a child!!!!  I believe we were successful in doing just that! Which is more important then just the game……"

YAPM ACC LEAGUE - October 19th, 2008 - Semifinal Playoff Games

B TEAM Pee Wee:  Dunmore Oilers 18 vs YAPM 12

Coach Vince Orender, “Congrats to C & A teams on their big wins Sunday. What a great season for the B team. If you were to ask me what did the season look like early August, I would tell you a 5-4 record finishing in the middle of the pack.

However, we finished 7-1 and second overall at the end of the regular season. This was great. The best thing is, we were only "10 years old".  In fact we have 18, 10 year olds. It doesn't take much figuring that 2009 should be a phenominal year for our B team.  To recap the game, Dunmore came out to play.  In fact, they owned us in the first half. Too bad there are not 3 halves to a football game, because if there are 3 halves we would come out on top.  Dunmore scored   twice on their first 3 drives and returned a fumble for another TD.  After that our gang started  to play. Qmac Quiteh led our team in the 12 point come-back but due to a lack of time we fell short. The Red Machine had a few broken parts due to practice injuries, which forces us to make last minute changes in personnel and game planning. Tyrell Mann, Nate Fogle and Justin Bullock did a great job making adjustments to help us go into battle Sunday, and a lot of pressure was on them. They all responded well to the pressure and did a fine job.  To all B players, keep your heads up, you all are great kids and football players you all did a fine job in yesterday’s game and moreso during the season.”

YAPM VARSITY TOWN LEAGUE - Superbowl Saturday

VARSITY CONSOLATION: YAPM Red Dragons 13  Orange Crush 0

Coach Pedro Williams’ Dragons managed to score in the second quarter after the scoreless first quarter, on a 1 yd TD run by Nick Girgenti.  The PAT was a beautiful pass completion to Jon Daley in the end zone, leaving the halftime score at 7-0.  The last score of the game in the 3rd quarter was a 1 yd TD run by Michael Vick and the PAT was overruled by a penalty call leaving the final score at 13-0.

Coach Eric Buckstein’s Crush team showed signs of improvement in the offense with some yardages and first downs gained, but more significantly on defense where improved tackling held the Dragons from further scoring.  Coach Buckstein is proud of the 11 man team playing the entire game, while overcoming several injuries during the course of the game.

VARSITY SUPERBOWL: YAPM White Lightning 24  YAPM Blue Ice 0

Coach Tim Keane, “The White Lightning played their best game of the year this past weekend, The Superbowl! From the opening kickoff to final interception return for touchdown by Steven Farnan, at the end of game, the White Lightning played as a team! The coaches couldn't be prouder for these guys. I want to thank everyone involved for a very successful season. Our hats off to the Blue Ice, they played a good game. If I had to pick an MVP for the Super Bowl it would have to be The Entire team! These kids, every one of them, played as one unit! Like a machine, all contributed to winning!  Again I am so proud of these guys. Thanks to the YAPM and all involved for a well run program. Looking forward to next season!”

Coach Rich Swingle, “Let me start by congratulating the White Lightning team for the win, they are a good football team. For the Blue Ice guys, we had a great season making it to the championship game, and for that I want to say how proud I am to serve as your coach. I also want to thank all the other coaches for their help, and the parents for their support. I’m looking forward to coaching any child who is available to me and watching the rest of them in next year’s 2009 season.”
